1. Call for papers: Canadian Yearbook of International Law Symposium – The Adjudication of Climate Change. The Canadian Yearbook of International Law (CYIL) is soliciting papers (in English or French) for a symposium on “The Adjudication of Climate Change”. Prospective authors are invited to submit an abstract of up to 500 words by 15 July 2025 to cyil-editor {at} uottawa(.)ca. Those selected will be invited to present their paper at the Young Scholars’ Workshop to be held at the University of Ottawa on 12 November 2025, where they will receive constructive feedback from senior scholars and practitioners. Authors will then submit their articles for consideration by the CYIL. Subject to favourable peer-review, articles submitted as part of the symposium will appear in Volume 63 of the Yearbook in 2026. 2. Symposium on Human Rights and the Green Transition: Ensuring Justice for All. The Editors of the Asian Yearbook of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (Brill Nijhoff) are inviting submissions for their upcoming online symposium on “Human Rights and the Green Transition: Ensuring Justice for All” to be held on 28 November 2025. They encourage submissions from scholars, practitioners and activists from diverse disciplines and geographical regions. Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be submitted by 15 September 2025 to the General Editor of the Yearbook, Prof. Dr. Matthias Vanhullebusch (email: matthias.vanhullebusch {at} uhasselt(.)be). Selected papers (8000-15000 words) will be considered for publication in a special issue in Vol. 10 of the Yearbook. Paper deadline: 31 January 2026.  For more information see the flyer.

3. Call for Papers [Date Change]: Early Career Conference on Humanitarian Disarmament. On 11-12 September 2025, the Asser Institute in The Hague will host a conference for young scholars on Humanitarian Disarmament. The organizers have issued a call for papers open to researchers working on international humanitarian law, international arms control and related topics, who are currently enrolled in a PhD program or who obtained their PhD no more than three years ago. Limited bursaries are available to presenting participants. To apply, authors must submit an abstract (150-200 words) by 17 July 2025 to t.coventry {at} asser(.)nl. 4. Ljubljana Sanctions ConferenceRegistration is now open for the Ljubljana Sanctions Conference, which is scheduled to take place on 25 – 26 September 2025 at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. The Programme features a number of scholars and practitioners including Thomas Biersteker, Jean d’Aspremont, Frank Hoffmeister, Petra Mahnič, Allain Pellet, Clara Portela, Marko Rakovec, Cedric Ryngaert, Mirko Sossai and Larissa van den Herik. The speakers will cover a wide range of topics, including the evolution of international sanctions practices, theoretical and practical perspectives on sanctions, challenges in national sanctions implementation, sanctions and human rights, legal issues surrounding the confiscation of state and private property, sanctions as geo-political and geo-economic tools, links between sanctions and investment law, sanctions and humanitarian action, critical views on sanctioning policies and double standards, as well as TWAIL perspectives on sanctions. Early bird registration is available until 31 July.

5. Rio School on Global Governance, Democracy and Human Rights. The FGV Rio Law Centre for Global Law has announced the opening of the Admissions Process for the third edition of the Rio School on Global Governance, Democracy and Human Rights at the FGV Jean Monnet Center of Excellence (JMCE), coordinated by Professor Paula Wojcikiewicz Almeida and funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Programme. This is a four-month intensive programme, taught in English, aimed at expanding knowledge on European Union institutions and practices on Global Governance, as well as their relevance for South America. It will take place between 6 August – 5 November 2025 (on Wednesdays), from 3:50pm to 5:30pm (GMT-3 hours), in person, at FGV’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro (Praia de Botafogo, 190). 6. India and Pakistan on the Brink of War Event. Organised by Solon Solomon (BUL School of Law, Brunel University of London) and Saeed Bagheri (University of Reading School of Law), co-conveners of the SLS International Law section, this ‘India and Pakistan on the brink of war: A view on the latest tensions from a geopolitical and international law perspective’ event will take place on 30 June in Central London. 7. The Changing Role of the International Court of Justice Seminar. This Seminar will take place on 11 June 2025, 10.00 AM – 12.00 noon (UK time),  at Moot Court, 8 – 10 Berkeley Square, University of Bristol Centre for International Law. The ICJ, which will soon mark its 80th anniversary, is currently busier than ever, with around 20 contentious cases and 3 requests for advisory opinions currently pending before the Court. Recent years have seen a range of noteworthy developments in the practice of the ICJ, including mass interventions, public interest litigation, and a significant increase in requests for provisional measures. This seminar will reflect on the substance of recent cases, noteworthy procedural developments, and the changing role of the ICJ in the international legal system. 8. Call for Papers: Seminar on Developments in the Law of State Immunity. The Research Group for Human Rights and International Law at UiT The Arctic University of Norway will host a seminar on Developments in the Law of State Immunity on 20 November 2025 in Tromsø. The seminar will feature discussions on the law of state immunity, which is taken to include the immunity of the State and its property, as well the immunity of State representatives, both functional immunity (ratione materiae) and personal immunity (ratione personae). Keynote speakers are Professor Roger O’Keefe (Bocconi University) and Professor Astrid Kjeldgaard-Pedersen (University of Copenhagen). The organizers welcome the submission of abstracts on these and related themes. Ph.d. students are especially encouraged to apply. Selected papers will be published in a special issue of the Nordic Journal of International Law.
